One of the best things about living in Central Florida is the geography. You're not stuck in a corner of the state — you're right in the middle of it. Tampa is 90 minutes southwest. Orlando is an hour southeast. Daytona is 90 minutes east. Jacksonville, Sarasota, St. Augustine, Gainesville — all within a lazy afternoon's drive.
That means the biggest festivals, food events, music weekends, and cultural happenings in the state are all within reach. Not "fly somewhere and book a hotel" reach. "Gas up the car and go" reach.
We've pulled together 25+ of Florida's biggest annual events, organized by season, so you can plan ahead and stop finding out about things two days after they happened. Each listing includes drive time from The Villages, what to expect, and whether it's worth the trip. (Spoiler: they all are.)

Gasparilla takes over Tampa every late January, and the Parade of Pirates is the main event — 4.5 miles of floats, marching bands, costumes, and controlled chaos along Bayshore Boulevard.

Spring Training Baseball — Tampa, Clearwater, Lakeland, Dunedin (~60-90 minutes)

Year-Round & Multi-Season Events
Bok Tower Gardens Events — Lake Wales (~75 minutes)

Bok Tower Gardens is always worth a visit, but their event calendar elevates it. The 2026 season includes a Blooms, Bells, and Broadway series and a Singing Bells & Singing Bowls experience that layers carillon music with meditative sound bowls. It's the most peaceful thing on this entire list.
When: Events throughout the year | Tickets: Garden admission from $15; events vary | boktowergardens.org
Planning Tips
Book accommodation early for the big ones. Gasparilla, the Daytona 500, Welcome to Rockville, and EDC Orlando all strain local hotel inventory. If you can do it as a day trip, do. If not, book months ahead.
Check for VillaCala Vibes coverage. We cover many of these events as they approach — look for our weekend roundups and day trip guides for route tips and restaurant recommendations along the way.
Go on the off-day. Multi-day festivals are almost always less crowded on the first day or on weekdays. Friday afternoon at Rockville beats Saturday afternoon at Rockville.
Factor in the drive home. A 90-minute drive after a full day of festival is a different animal than a 90-minute drive with coffee in the morning. Know your limits, designate a driver, and don't be a hero.
Save this page. Bookmark it, screenshot it, print it out and stick it on the fridge. We'll update it annually as dates are confirmed and new events are added.
