Updated monthly. Last updated: April 2026. Check our events calendar for the full picture, including weekly regulars.

You already know about the nightly entertainment at the town squares and the Saturday morning farmers markets. Those are great, they're free, and they're on our events calendar if you need the details.

This article is about what's different this month — the one-time events, seasonal happenings, and special occasions worth putting on your calendar in April 2026.

Festivals & Special Events

Brownwood Paddock Square Art & Craft Festival

When: Saturday-Sunday, April 4-5, 10am-5pm Where: Brownwood Paddock Square, The Villages Cost: Free admission

A two-day festival with handmade goods from local artisans, food trucks, and live entertainment. One of the bigger free-admission events of the spring season at The Villages. Brownwood is the best square for this kind of thing — the rustic vibe matches the craft-fair energy. Get there early on Saturday for the best selection.

First Friday Art Walk — Downtown Ocala

When: Friday, April 3, starting at 6pm Where: Ocala Downtown Square and surrounding galleries

Downtown Ocala's monthly art walk — galleries stay open late, live music fills the square, food vendors set up, and the whole downtown takes on a festive energy. This happens the first Friday of every month, but April's edition is one of the best because the weather is finally perfect for walking around outside without melting. Free, and worth the drive even if you're not buying art.

Earthfest: Celebrate Arbor Day

When: Saturday, April 25, 9am-1pm Where: Tuscawilla Park, 829 NE Sanchez Ave, Ocala Cost: Free admission

A City of Ocala nature and conservation event at Tuscawilla Park. Tree rappelling, a youth fishing derby, conservation organizations, live music, food trucks, and eco-friendly vendors. Good for families, good for anyone who wants a Saturday morning outside that's more interesting than yard work.

Seasonal Picks — What's Worth Doing in April

Manatee Season (Last Call)

April is the tail end of manatee season in Crystal River. The crowds thin out, the water is still clear, and the manatees haven't all left yet. If you've been meaning to do a manatee kayak tour or visit Three Sisters Springs, this is your last good window until November. See our Crystal River guide for the full breakdown.

Polo at The Villages

When: Sundays at 1pm through mid-May Where: The Villages Polo Club

Spring polo season runs through May. Sunday afternoon matches are open to the public — it's a surprisingly fun outing even if you've never watched polo before. Check ahead for specific dates, as the schedule varies.

Spring Wildflowers at the Cross Florida Greenway

The Land Bridge and surrounding trails at the Cross Florida Greenway are at peak wildflower season in April. Free to visit, and the views from the bridge — over 100 feet in elevation, spanning approximately 200 feet — are worth the walk even without the flowers.

Community Events to Watch For

April tends to bring a wave of charity walks, 5Ks, church festivals, and community gatherings across the coverage area. These pop up too late for our monthly update but show up on our events calendar as we hear about them. A few recurring ones to keep an eye on:

  • Relay for Life events across Marion, Lake, and Sumter counties
  • Spring plant sales at local garden clubs (Ocala, Mount Dora, Leesburg)
  • Car shows at the town squares (check The Villages Entertainment for dates)
  • Earth Day cleanups and events around April 22

The Weekly Regulars

We're not going to list every farmers market and nightly music schedule here — that's what the events calendar is for. But if you're new to the area and haven't discovered these yet:
